What is Safe Passage? What do I do?

What is Safe Passage? What do I do?

You’ve booked your Disney Cruise. You’ve paid for your cruise in FULL! You’ve done your Online Check-In. Now it is time for Safe Passage!

At this time Disney is using Safe Passage as a way to keep guests and crew safe during these uncertain times with Covid-19.  You will find the link online when you look at your reservation. You will see it in the section about Online Check-In.

15 days before you crise you will go to the Safe Passage Website, DCL.SafePassage.com. Create an account and upload a JPEG photo of your Covid-19 vaccination card., just the front is needed You will also need your reservation number. That is it!! You may want to come back ever couple of days to make sure the photo has not been rejected and you need to upload a new one. Each guest needs to do this, even the children.

Doing Safe Passage is easy. You don’t have to stress about doing it. Once you have done it you don’t have to upload your card again if you sail with DCL again. You just need to check in with Safe Passage and upload your next reservation number(s). Again it is at the 15 day mark.

After this there is only one more step before boarding day! That is the final Covid-19 test taken 2 days before the cruise and uploaded before midnight the day you sail. Here is a link to more on that information.

Decorating your Disney Cruise Cabin Door

Decorating your Disney Cruise Cabin Door

All the cabin doors on the Disney Cruise Ships look exactly alike when you board the ship. Just wait a few hours and watch the change! Many people decorate their cabin doors! As you can see by the picture above even Pepe Prawn decorates his door!

So why decorate your door? That is just one more thing to take along with you on the trip and one more thing to do when you get there. The answer is one word, FUN!! It is totally fun!! Another good reason to decorate your door is it helps you find your cabin easily when you return tired after a day of fun on the ship or shore.

You can decorate your door to let everybody know you are celebrating a birthday, wedding, anniversary, any special event or holiday. You can just add Disney touches to our door. Whatever you do as long as it is family friendly and follows DCL policy it is ok.

Let’s start with DCL rules. No offensive graphics/pictures or words/comments. (No nudes, profanity, suggestive comments or racist talk.) You will be asked to remove it if you do. Common sense folks, this is a family friendly ship! If you would not want your little kids or grandma to see it don’t put it up. It can’t “stick out” and block the walkway as the hallways are small. The biggest rule of all, (only formal rule) and one that can cost you money is no tape or over the door hangers! Tape and hangers can damage the paint on the metal doors. If you attach things with tape or hangers and it damages the door you will be charged for the cleanup and repair. Attach everything to your door with magnets instead. This is actually a plus as it is easier to put up and change around. You can change or add to celebrate what is happening that day.

The round Christmas "Ornaments" are really

What can you put on the door? Some people have designed Disney Character ears, hats and such to go around the circle that has your door number. (Pro tip: The number circle is 9 inches in diameter.) Others print cool graphics and make magnets. You can also print or purchase full page graphics on photo paper or regular paper and put them in sheet protectors. To attach the sheet protector to the door just put magnets on the back.

We have printed the graphics on full size photo or regular paper and put them in sheet protectors, printed graphics on sheets of magnet paper, made round magnets that are 2 or 1 inch cabochons and even put up a Christmas tree!

So the next time you are planning a Disney Cruise plan on decorating your door! It is practical because it helps you find your cabin at a glance. It is FUN FUN FUN because you get to add to the excitement while planning for the trip and while on the trip. People see the décor and make comments and you make friends. If you are celebrating people will often wish you a Happy . . . . as they go by. (Add a dry erase board and pens and people will leave best wishes.) Think of how much fun that will be for the kids in your group that are celebrating! If you use a dry erase board I suggest taking pictures of it at least once a day. This way if comments you love are erased you still have the picture to remind you of it.

Once you are home from your trip your door décor can become treasured memories. Magnets can be put on your frig or where ever else you keep them. Printed graphics can be put in your scrapbook or with your pictures, or even framed and placed on your wall.

What You Need to Think About When Flying

What You Need to Think About When Flying

You are headed on a Cruise. You need to fly to an airport near the port. I’m going to give my opinion, along with advice from flight attendants.

·         Fly in the day before:

o   You are to board the ship no later than 4pm. Your flight arrives at 9am. You should have time to get to the port, right? WRONG! You miss the ship you miss your cruise!

o   Flight delays and cancelations HAPPEN!!

o   Currently many flights are being cancelled due to lack of crew.

o   Flying the day before gives you a chance to reschedule and still get there in time.

o   Book a flight first thing in the morning.

o   There are less likely to be delays.

o   You will have more time to reschedule and still not miss your boarding time.

·         Download the app for your airline:

o   Check the status of your flight several days before to see if there are any changes.

o   Check the status of your flight before leaving home for the airport!

o   Do your check-in online or on the app.

·         Arrive at the airport early:

o   Have paperwork ready to show to airline attendants and security.

o   Better to sit in the airport for 2-3 hours preflight than to miss the flight because security took too long.

o   Things happen to checked luggage:

§  Take a picture of your luggage at the airport just before checking it in.

·         Make sure to take pictures of all sides, top and bottom.

·         Your phone will record the location, time and date the photo was taken. This will confirm claims you make about damage.

§  This can help if your luggage is damaged in transit.

§  Know your airlines policy on damaged luggage.

§  Be aware of federal law regarding luggage.

·         Be mindful how you Pack:

o   Know the size and weight limits of both checked and carryon bags.

§  Make sure your bags meet the requirements or be ready to pay extra.

o   Know what must be packed in your checked luggage and what you can carry on. Be sure to follow the rules!

o   Pack an extra set of clothes in your carryon bag just in case there is a delay.

o   Bring snacks. Prepackaged unopened items are allowed. No liquid or gel.

o   Bring headphones along with a tablet or computer that you can entertain yourself with.

o   Download some books, movies and/or music.

o   Know the weather where you are going so you can take extra clothing to change into when you get there if there is a significant weather difference.

o   Be aware checked luggage may get lost! Keep enough with you to be ready for that.

·         Understand the seating rules for your flight:

o   Did you purchase an assigned seat, or could your travel party be split up?

§  If sitting together is important to you pay in advance and pick your seat.

§  Do not argue with the flight attendant if you did not purchase the correct seat.

·         Flight Crew are stressed at this time, be kind:

o   Should not have to be said but I said it!

§  Follow ALL directions.

§  Ask politely for help when needed.

·         It never hurts to say please and thank you.

§  Do not bother other passengers with loud noise and putting your items or self in their way.

§  Help do not hinder flight crew.

·         Have good Personal Hygiene:

o   Shower before going to the airport.

o   Use deodorant.

o   Put on clean clothes.

§  Dress appropriately. Be comfortable but be respectful of others. Remember nobody needs to see what God gave you.

o   Brush your teeth.

o   Do not use perfume or cologne:

§  Many people are allergic to perfumes and colognes or simply do not like the smell.

The biggest piece of advice for travel these days is pack your patience!!! It will take longer to get where you are going! You have a 7:30am flight be ready to arrive at the airport around 4:30am. Plan for delays and long wait times. Be the eye in the middle of the storm and let it all go on around you while you are calm. Easier said than done but it can be done.

Should You Pay for Travel Protection/Insurance When You Sail DCL?

Should You Pay for Travel Protection/Insurance When You Sail DCL?

We all know life happens, even when you are on vacation. The unexpected can happen at any time. While on vacation many things can happen. Travel delays, weather issues, lost luggage, injury and illness don’t know it is your special trip.

What is Travel Protection/Insurance? It is an insurance plan that protects your Vacation. Where do you get it? Should you buy it? Do you have to buy Disney Cruise offered Travel?

Do you NEED it? Most likely not. But it is a good idea to have.

Why would you need Travel Protection?

·       Things can happen to force you to cancel your trip after the last day to cancel without losing money.

·         Flight delays happen. You could be delayed so long you miss the ship.

·         Luggage gets lost/delayed.

·         Accidents and injury happen on vacation.

You don’t need to worry about things like this happening if you have Travel Protection/Insurance.

Do you need to purchase Travel Protection through Disney Cruise Line? No. You can look for a 3rd party company if you desire.

If you decide to purchase Travel Protection, when should you purchase? If purchasing with Disney Cruise Line I suggest you wait until making your final payment. In fact, I suggest you wait to make your final payment until the day you are required to Pay In Full (PIF). The reason for this is if you need to cancel for any reason BEFORE your PIF date there is no penalty. If you have requested Travel Protection you will lose the premium, you paid. Let me explain that. If your PIF date is 90 days before you sail then that is when you should request Travel Protection and have it added. If you cancel before then and have not added Travel Protection you lose NOTHING. If you have added Travel Protection and then cancel the cruise before the 90 days, you will lose the Travel Protection Premium.

Who do I recommend purchasing Travel Protection?

  • ·       Those with preexisting conditions that may require an emergency flight home for care.
  • ·         Those that are older and more apt to get hurt or sick.
  • ·       Those with someone at home who is elderly or ill that you may need to fly home for.
  • ·       Those traveling during Hurricane Season or when weather might cause travel delays.
  • ·       Those that just wish the peace of mind.

I highly recommend Travel Protection. It costs a little but can safe your vacation.

Here is a link to more information on the Disney Cruise Line Travel Protection:

There are other companies you can purchase Travel Insurance through. I suggest you check them out.
