Disneyland Soon To Be Haunted for Halloween

Disneyland Soon To Be Haunted for Halloween

During Halloween Season Disneyland does decorate the park for Halloween. Changes are made to some rides and special events planned.

For the "general public" they have Haunted Manson being taken over by Jack Skellington and friends from Nightmare Before Christmas (HM-NBC) and Space Mountain becomes Ghost Galaxy. They have special "Party Nights" called Mickey's Halloween Party (MHP). There are special fireworks on MHP nights and they give out candy. MHP is a pay event so you have to purchase a ticket.

Here is some information from the Disneyland website about the party.

Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland Park

You are invited to Mickey's Halloween Party! Dress up your little ones, don a costume of your own and Trick-or-Treat at the ultimate "neighborhood" Disneyland Park.

Spine-Tingling Attractions and Entertainment

Take part in all kinds of frightful family fun:

·        Viewing of the boo-tiful Halloween Screams fireworks spectacular — exclusively for Mickey's Halloween Party Guests

·        Admission to the Disneyland Park up to 3 hours prior to the event's start time

·        Pose for a photo with popular Disney and Pixar Pals, and Disney Villains

·        Special treat stations offering both yummy candy and healthy goodies

·        See some of your favorite Disney Characters in Mickey's Costume Party Cavalcade

·        Boo-gie to lively music at dance parties, and eat, drink and be (not so) scary throughout the park.

·        Access to nearly all attractions, including all the Halloween-themed attractions such as Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and Haunted Mansion Holiday

·        Plus, lots more entertainment for little boys and ghouls

You'll also enjoy complimentary parking for one vehicle. Larger vehicles may require an additional fee.

They clear the park of all the regular guests and allow the MHP goers to hit HM-NBC and SM-GG and other rides with reduced crowds. They also hand out candy and have other special tables with things to do for the party goers. I believe they have tables where you can make your own Halloween themed cookie.

I always go on HM-NBC and SM-GG every year during regular hours. I've always wanted to do HM-NBC every day before Christmas. Not sure if it is from Halloween or from Dec 1, but the display behind where you load into the doom buggies is an Advent calendar and something new pops up and is added to the display.

Here is a link to the information on Disneyland.com about the party including dates and prices.

They end the night with the Halloween Screams Fireworks. Instead of Tink and Dumbo flying around Zero from NBC comes out to fly. This is a totally awesome fireworks display!

Here is a link to my video of the 2009 Halloween Screams Fireworks on youtube. These were the last ones they allowed the general public to go to. We have never paid the extra to go to MHP.

Space Mountain Becomes Ghost Galaxy

Space Mountain Becomes Ghost Galaxy

During the month of October Space Mountain, an inside roller coaster ride takes on a special overlay for Halloween and becomes Ghost Galaxy. This is an otherworldly ride that fits well with the Halloween scary feel. Be warned young children that might be fine with Space Mountain any other time might find this overlay overwhelming and too scary.

By day the outside and cue of the ride is mostly unchanged. Just some of the signs have been changed or added too changing the name to Ghost Galaxy. By night you see lights changing colors and shapes on the outside of Space Mountain as the music from the ride and the roars of the "Ghost Galaxy Monster" can be heard throughout Tomorrowland.

The ride is normally a simulated launch into space, as you go up the first lift of the gravity feed coaster you are pulled through a tube of light. Then you rocket through "space" and shoot past space stations and simulated stars and asteroids, one that looks like a giant chocolate chip cookie and is jokingly called the "Cosmic Cookie". The entire ride is synced to music played through speakers at the top of the back of your seat.

With the Ghost Galaxy overlay you have a different lighting effect as you go up the lift hill. Once at the top of the lift and sent off into the "Ghost Galaxy" you soon realize you are not alone. You see this swirling red gas like mass that quickly changes. You see hands and a face in the red gaseous cloud and ghastly eyes look out at you. As you rocket through space the gaseous cloud chases you around always staying on the wall beside your "rocket". Its hands reach out to grab you several times and its hideous eye blinks at you. Throughout the ride eerie music plays and the monsters roars can be hears as its frustration at not catching its prey, you grows.

I highly recommend this ride for adventurous, stout hearted souls young and old. Just make sure the younger kids understand it is Disney Magic and Mickey will make sure the Ghostly Monster will not get them.
