Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic - My Thoughts

Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic - My Thoughts

While I find the concept of seeing Walt Disney in a lifelike form interesting, I also find it creepy and disrespectful. I have multiple feelings about this project.

First off I think it is disrespectful to Walt’s memory and his family. In fact I know that his family is upset by this development. Here is a post from Walt’s granddaughter, Joanna Miller.

Everyone PLEASE STOP THE MADNESS>>>Do not let them turn Grampa into a ROBOT!…………..My Mom tried to stop this years ago and they respected her wishes. There is plenty of film so people can see him and hear him talk. He has told you everything on TV show lead ins and specials. EVERYONE WHO STEPPED FORWARD when Uncle Robert’s House was going to be destroyed and YOU DID IT . Thank you we have that protected because of all of you. Please help protect the memory and legacy of GRAMPA.

From the personal Facebook page of Joanna Miller

I will add my voice to Joanna’s and stand with the Disney Family on this. When I say I’m standing with the family I am saying this because Joanna Miller is the eldest granddaughter of Walt. She iss passionate in keeping the memory of Walt alive and honored. She is passionate about keeping his memory alive and stopping misinformation about her grandpa..

What can you do? Write Disney Corporate and Disneyland! Let your voice be heard. Share the pain this is causing the Disney Family.

The other thing that upsets me is displacing the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. Walt wanted to keep his memory alive. Disney Corporate is doing a lot to take away American History that Walt put into the park. If you truly wish to honor Walt, then maintain that history! In fact, add more!

Disneyland’s Voices of Liberty

Disneyland’s Voices of Liberty

Picture from Disneyland Today Facebook page
Last year Disneyland finally got their own Voices of Liberty! At the time it was listed as a short term entertainment offering. Much to my excitement and joy the Voices of Liberty’s stay at Disneyland was extended!
The Disneyland Voices of Liberty preform in the Main Street Opera House. They performed before performances of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. They are a perfect addition to the show and bring many guests and to see great moments with Mr. Lincoln.
Rumors abound around Disneyland that the Voices of Liberty will be leaving early April. It is also said they are doing this as a budget-cutting measure. Personally I think this is a bad choice. The reason given for the need to reduce entertainment offered in the park is the addition of the Princess Fantasy Fair. As nice as I think the Princess Fantasy Fair is going to be I think it is wrong to cut the Voices of Liberty which is wonderful and touching entertainment that also educates.
Prior to the Voices of Liberty coming into the Main Street Opera House there were very few people coming to see Mr. Lincoln. The singers bring new life to this fantastic show. People are now coming in to see the Voices of Liberty and staying for Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. It is renewing pride in America and in introducing visitors from other countries and the next generation to beautiful patriotic music from the past and a good history lesson couched in entertainment or is Walt would say edutainment through Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.
Taking Voices of Liberty away will probably lead to a decrease in guests stopping in to see Mr. Lincoln. I would hate to see this happen as it is a fantastic history lesson and a part of Disney history.
If you have stopped and watched the Voices of Liberty at Disneyland and would like to see them stay in the Main Street Opera House let Disneyland know! Send them a message at the following link:

American Pride

American Pride

Recently we spent a short day at Disneyland and decided to stop in and see the Voices of Liberty perform in the Main Street Opera House and watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln as well. We have been trying for the last two and a half months to see them but never seem to get over there.

Voices of Liberty is new to Disneyland. Voices of Liberty has been at WDW EPCOT for many years and we enjoyed seeing them there when we were there in 05. I’m glad DLR now has their own VoL to enjoy, even if it is only for the summer.

It was an amazing show! The meet and greet before the performance was warm and friendly adding a special extra touch to the show. The music was wonderful and perfect. Being a proud American I was touched by the song selection as well as the quality of the singing.

After hearing the stirring music that was greeted with applause Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln started. I have always loved this show. I enjoy the way Walt made sure history was told correctly. I am touched by the references to God and country.

I could not help thinking about how I was at this show 9/10/01 and the place was empty. Just three days later, after the horror of 9/11 we had to wait for several showings before we could finally get in. Since that time the number of people going in to see Mr. Lincoln has dropped, still not as low as before 9/11.

The Voices of Liberty at the Main Street Opera House is a good fit. They fit the theme of the show and add a great patriotic feel. I believe many more people are coming in to see Mr. Lincoln because VoL is there. I hope Disney keeps VoL at the MSOH throughout the year and for many years to come. I know if they do I will go back to see them many more times.

I believe this sign outside the exit of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln sums it up well.
“America, You must Keep dreaming now . . .”
In the generations since
Abraham Lincoln, many new and
exciting spirits of America have
joined with the honored spirits
of the past to fulfill the hopes
and dreams of our pioneers.
We work together not always
In harmony, but always in unity, to
ensure that “government of the people, by the people,
and for the people,
shall not perish from this Earth.

Here is video of the entire Voices of Liberty show that we saw.
