Where Will You Eat Dinner on the Disney Magic

There are 3 Main Dining Restaurants on the Disney Magic. You will rotate through them throughout the cruise. Your dining staff will follow you from Restaurant to Restaurant.

The Main Restaurants of the Disney Magic are:

Lumiere’s:

Located on the side of the Main Atrium Lobby, Deck 3.

French/American food in an upscale restaurant.

Themed after Beauty and the Beast

No show but Characters MAY walk through the restaurant as you eat. No stopping or visiting.

Menu:

Rapunzel’s Royal Table:

Located Deck 3 Aft.

Rapunzel and Flinn Rider come to visit during your meal and also the lovable thugs from the Snuggly Duckling will also come to join the fun

Menu:

Animator’s Palate:

Located Deck 2 Aft.

Themed to look like a Disney Animators workshop.

The room starts out of stark black and white. As the meal progresses the pictures on the wall go from simple pencil sketches being drawn to colored, to fully animated. On Pirate Night the theme is slightly different and the pictures are from Disney Pirate films. Soccer Mickey comes out and dances through the restaurant.

You will also find one of these restaurants open for Breakfast and Lunch for sit down meals. Just check your Navigator App to see what restaurant is open for Breakfast and Lunch each day. If you don’t want to do a sit-down service meal for breakfast or lunch try Cabanas or the quick service options on the pool deck.

Dress Code for Dinner on A Disney Cruise

Dress Code for Dinner  on A Disney Cruise

Lots of people ask what the dress code is for dining. It is simple, Cruise Casual is accepted in all Main Restaurants aboard Disney Ships. Adult Dining locations on the ship have a slightly different dress code.

For Main Dining Restaurants, Cruise Casual means Shorts, Jeans (in good repair), Dresses, Slacks, T-shirts, and Blouses are all acceptable. Cut offs, swimsuits/swim apparel/cover-ups are not acceptable.

One unique thing about the ships is people do not care what others wear. They don’t mind is someone is dressed up to the nines while they have jeans and a T on. Some will theme the outfits to the restaurant or the days show. Bounding as characters is also enjoyed. Others will stick to cruise casual attire. People enjoy seeing all the different things going on. From Disney bounding, themed attire, suits to shorts it is all there. Pirate Night on the ship is fun with many people dressing as pirates to fit the evenings theme. Other than the Quick Serve around the pool all dining locations restrict swim apparel. This includes Cabanas, the buffet on the pool deck.

Palo has its own Dress Code. It is an upscale Adult Dining only location. In the past the Dress Code was strict with men required to have a shirt, tie and jacket and women dressed appropriately in a dress or pantsuit. Now I’d call it upper end Cruise Casual. Collared Shirt for men with good Jeans is acceptable. A nice blouse with Jeans is acceptable for women. My personal preference is dressing to the nines for this amazing experience to fit the environment of the location. This goes for all adult dining on the ships.

Thinking About a Cruise Vacation? How to Check the Cruise Line

Thinking About a Cruise Vacation? How to Check the Cruise Line

When thinking about a cruise vacation you may be thinking about Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Disney, Princess or one of the other large lines. Then you may decide to think small and pick a smaller ship for a more intimate feel. What choice should you make? The answer is simple. What fits YOU best!

What is important is checking out the Cruise Lines current track record. You can search for health and safety, along with environmental impact. You can also look to see if they are canceling cruises or having problems. It is also wise to check on if they are part of a large cruise industry trade association, such as Cruise Line International Association, CLIA.

Want to see the current State Department records on the cruise lines? Click here:

https://www.transportation.gov/mission/safety/cruise-line-incident-reports

CLIA has had a huge impact on the international Cruise Industry. 95% of cruise lines are part of CLIA. When concerns such as health and safety, and guests not being treated fairly or not being compensated for loss due to the cruise line errors CLIA stepped in and pushed for a Passenger Bill of Rights to protect the cruising guests. CLIA has encouraged fairer cancelation policies, especially during the recent pandemic. CLIA has pushed for and gotten cruise lines to work towards being more environmentally friendly and clean as well.

Why check if your cruise line is part of a large trade organization like CLIA?? The story is sadly clear in recent news. Vantage Cruise Line recently stopped service leaving many travelers stranded. Vantage is not part of any trade association. There honestly is no protection for Vantage guests. Hundreds of guests found out at the last minute, some of them while at the airport waiting to board their plane, that their trip of a lifetime was cancelled and the return of money uncertain! If you had your Vantage cruise canceled contact the Massachusetts Attorney General as there is a class action lawsuit and there may be help getting your funds back.

Another thing about CLIA is that it not only advocates for the Cruise Line Industry, and their guests, it also advocates for Travel Agents selling cruise travel. It helps inform agents about the current state of the cruise industry and where it is going. It teaches agents how to sell cruise travel, and what different types of cruises are available. CLIA is a bridge between Cruise Lines, Guests, and Agents. Its goal is improving the industry for the traveling public.

A CLIA Certified Travel Agent is one that has taken the time to take training with CLIA. There are 4 levels of certification for agents along with a training course for Agency Owners. Much of it is online but CLIA also has live seminars. Don’t hesitate to ask your Travel Agent if they, or the Agency Owner has a CLIA card and is working on training.

Why choose a CLIA member agency/agent? They are working towards learning more about the cruise industry in particular, and travel in general. They are staying informed with a goal of improving travel for the industry and guests alike. They can check on the status of a cruise line for you and give you  the information you need to make a wise decision in choosing your next cruise vacation.

Full Disclosure here. Pixie Dusted Memories Travel is part of CLIA, and the owner is a Certified Cruise Counselor and will soon be working on the Travel Agency Executive training as well as the Accredited Cruise Counselor Training with plans to do more training. Pixie Dusted Memories Travel encourages all their agents to join CLIA when they are ready.

What is Rotational Dining on Disney Cruise Line?

What is Rotational Dining on Disney Cruise Line?

Rotational Dining is Disney Cruise Lines way of making dinner special! You do not eat in the same restaurant every night. Instead, you rotate between the 3 Main Dining Restaurants. Sounds confusing but really it is NOT!

First off there are two dining times. Main Dining, 1st seating is around 5:30 pm or so. Second Seating is around 8 pm. When you book you can request the dining time of your preference.

Let’s say you are on the Disney Magic, the first ship in the Disney Fleet. Disney Magic has 3 main restaurants, Lumiere’s, Rapunzel’s Royal Table and Animators Palate. How do you know where you will eat and when? Check your handy dandy Navigator App! On the app it will tell you what restaurant you are in that night and what table number you will be seated at. You can see your entire itineraries dining schedule on the app as soon as you board.

You are on a 3-night Disney Magic cruise, you may have Lumiere’s on the first night and sit at table number 59. The second night you may be at Animators Palate, and you will sit at table number 59. The third night you will be at Rapunzel’s Royal Table and be at, you guessed, table number 59. If you are on a longer cruise, you will go back to one or more of the restaurants. For a 4-night cruise you will return to one restaurant once, 5-night you will revisit two restaurants. On a 7-night cruise you will go to two restaurants twice and the third restaurant you will go to 3 times. Again, your Navigator App will tell you want restaurant to go to each day. It will also have the menu for the restaurant. You can look at it during the day so you know what you may want to order.

Now for the Disney Magic of all of this! Your server serving team of three will follow you from restaurant to restaurant! You will have the same dining staff the entire cruise! They will get to know any special dietary needs and food allergies along with your food preferences. Your servers often become part of your dining entertainment. They will join you dancing around the restaurant at times and each night have a different uniform fitting the restaurant or theme of dinner that night.

Often during the quiet times during the meal your servers may place a brain teaser puzzle on the table. They may place crayons or forks in a pattern and ask if you can move one to change the shape. They may do magic tricks or make funny hats out of napkins. This is great for keeping restless children calm while they wait for their next course or for characters to arrive in the restaurant.

Disney Cruise Line Money Saving Tips

Disney Cruise Line Money Saving Tips

Any Disney Vacation is expensive. Let’s be honest ANY vacation is expensive! But the memories you make on a vacation are PRICELESS!! Still, you must make sure your vacation fits into your budget!

This next tip will work for ANY Disney Destination or anyplace you can pay using a Disney Gift Card. Target, Sam’s Club, some Ebates stores online, and some CostCo Stores sell discounted Disney Gift Cards! With Target you must use your Target Red Card (Debit or Credit) to receive a 5% discount! Ebates also does a 5%. Sam’s Club is usually 6%. Take them along to pay for drinks, merchandise, port excursions, tips, anything you can pay for with a Disney Gift Card! Just add them to your onboard folio!

Go to DisneyGiftCard.com and combine the cards into larger $1,000 cards and use them to pay for your Disney reservations. It is important to combine your Disney Gift Cards into larger cards. If you purchase 20 $50 cards to pay for your shipboard account, you are putting $1,000 on your account. By the way you only spent $950 for that $1,000! Let’s say you only spent $975. Disney will put the $25 back onto your cards! They may not put the $25 back on ONE card. They may split it up between several cards with a few cents on one, a few dollars on another. It makes it easier to get any refund if you reduce the number of cards used.

Disney Gift Cards are also a great way to give kids (or yourself) a spending limit! They must keep track of what they spend so they know how much is left on the card! Once gone it is gone unless a parent wishes to add to the card. You can take the card to any cashier and ask what the balance is.

Now you are on a Disney ship! Take a Disney Gift Card with $250 on it with you!! Book a Placeholder Cruise! By the way that $250 card cost $237.50 to buy if you got it Discounted at 5%! On the Navigator App or by going to the Booking Desk book another cruise or booking Placeholder!! If you book a cruise or Placeholder while on the ship you get 10% off the next cruise! Don’t know when or where you will sail next? Book that Placeholder! A Placeholder gives you up to 2 years to sail on DCL again! It gives you a 10% discount on that future cruise! The $250 is part of your deposit! You just need to sail again within 24 months! If you don’t use the Placeholder the funds are returned to the Cred/Debit or Gift Card. If you book a future cruise or a Placeholder and pay them off with Discounted Disney Gift Cards, you can save 15%!! In my opinion every penny saved is worth the effort!

Do you love popcorn, candy, and soda while watching a movie or a show?? DCL charges for popcorn, candy, and soda from Preludes! Don’t want to pay full price?? Bring packages of candy in your carryon bags. Bring a popcorn bucket, ANY popcorn bucket from ANY Disney Park! You can get a refill at a greatly reduced price, $1.50 the last time I did it! Bring a Travel Mug/Cup for soda!! Go to the soda fountain on the pool deck and fill your cup before heading to the theater, lounge or any entertainment.

Suggested Gratuities on the Disney Cruise

Suggested Gratuities on the Disney Cruise

Disney Cruise Line suggested gratuities if you are in a standard cabin are $14.50 per person per day in each cabin. This money is given to the following 4 people, Stateroom Host/Hostess, Dining Room Server, Dining Room Assistant Server, Dining Room Head Server. Gratuities are paid at the end of the cruise, and you may add to them if you feel the service warrants.

You can make things easier by prepaying your gratuities, so you don’t have to worry about the basic amount while on the trip. You can add to them at the end. This makes budgeting for the trip easier.

The funds are split this way per day:

Stateroom Host/Hostess                 $4.75

Dining Room Server                       $4.75

Dining Room Assistant Server    $3.50

Dining Room Head Server            $1.50

Total Suggested Gratuities per person/per day - $14.50

As you can see this is not that much considering the service you receive. You will tip the same for infants. Consider the Stateroom Attendant will be setting up and taking down that pack n play along with taking out dirty diapers and other things that babies mess up several times per day. The dining staff can help by bringing special pureed foods and other things for the young one. The crew also must be ready to help in an emergency with caring for that little one. They are responsible for the health and safety of each and every guest, no matter the age.

If you have 2 people in the cabin the total suggested gratuities per day are $29 total for both guests.

For a 3-Night cruise the total gratuities for 2 guests would be $87. $43.50 per person.

For a 4-Night cruise the total gratuities for 2 guests would be $116. $58 per person.

For a 5-Night cruise the total gratuities for 2 guests would be $145. $72.50 per person.

For a 7-Night cruise the total gratuities for 2 guests would be $203. $101.50 per person.

If you are booked in a concierge cabin it is suggested you give $15.50 per person for gratuities. That is $0.25 per person more that you are tipping per day than the standard cabin. They also suggest tipping the Concierge Lounge staff $8 per person per night.

Besides the Suggested Gratuities there are other gratuities. There is an 18% gratuity on drinks ordered, spa services, and amenities delivered to your cabin. You may also wish to tip for some other services, such as nursery care.

Sailing Disney Cruise Line with Special Needs/Disabilities

Sailing Disney Cruise Line with Special Needs/Disabilities

Let me share our experience sailing Disney Cruise Line with special needs. DCL is amazing in the way it makes everyone feel included.

In 2005 we sailed on the Disney Magic. We were a group of 15 family and friends traveling together. None of us had ever done DCL before. 3 were elderly with mobility issues, using Scooters, vision and hearing impaired, and cognitive issues. 1 person used a CPap, 1 had diabetes, 6 had food allergies, 1 child with ADHD in the spectrum, and 1 adult with ADHD. Yes, we covered the spectrum of disabilities. DCL was amazingly accessible and helpful. From boarding the ship to disembarking the Crew took spectacular care of us. In 2017 we took Mum on her first Disney Cruise for her 90th Birthday. She LOVED it! She felt spoiled. She had Alzheimer’s and the last thing she could remember and clearly talk about was that cruise. She could not remember our names, but she remembered that cruise! It helped her remember we loved her. It gave us priceless memories of the best time with mum.

The attention given to those with special needs that have been to the Disney Parks and Disney Cruise with us has been amazing. We believe that it has improved and lengthened their lives. Trips to Disney Parks and Cruise have given them a reason to fight on. Those with cognitive issues it has given a reason to improve and has in fact improved their functions. Those with emotional issue we have seen it bring joy back into their lives and give them a reason to keep positive.

For Guests with Mobility Issues:

Accessible cabins can be found in most cabin category levels. Accessible Cabins have larger doors with no lip to make it easier for wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers to access. There are wider walkways in the cabin for getting around. Instead of a split bathroom there is one bathroom with a roll in shower. Again, the bathroom door is larger for easier access.

For the hearing impaired there are the following services:

A door alarm that flashes the lights, emergency alarms are flashing instead of audible, both also shake the bed to awaken a sleeping hearing impaired guest. The Disney Wish has hearing impaired cabins and does not have portable devices for the hard of hearing. Make sure you request a cabin for the hard of hearing when booking. If you contact DCL ahead of your trip they will arrange for ASL interpreters to be at the shows for you. There are a limited number of DCL cruise out of Europe that you can request ASL interpreters. There are also amplification devices and Closed Caption Screens for the hearing impaired. All is at no extra charge and available upon request.

For the blind there are the following services:

Alternative format on selected communications, audio described movies and Braille signage. The DCL Navigator App features the daily schedule and menus with audio and magnification functions. Additionally, Crew Members can assist with reading menus, price tags, and other forms of Guest Information.

For Children with Disabilities:

The kids clubs are designed to be age appropriate. Children 3 years old that are potty trained can go to the kids clubs. There are clubs for kids 3-17 years of age. Your child needs to go to the AGE-appropriate area. The Clubs are accessible for those with physical disabilities. If your child is 15 but functions at the level of a 8 year old they can not go into the younger age area. They can go into the area with the teens of their age. If your child is 18 and functions at the level of a much younger child, they can not go into the kids clubs. Everything is based on age not cognitive ability. The Crew does not have the training, staffing, or resources to provide the one on one care your child needs.

Guests with Medical Needs:

Do you need to bring medical equipment or medication? This includes things like CPap, Oxygen, IV Pump, medication that needs to be refrigerated, need for a 2nd refrigerator, sharps disposal box or anything else? Just ask DCL and they will make sure you have what you need. There is a Sharps Container in every cabin and public restroom. They are small but you can get another one if it fills up.

Here is a link to the DCL book for guests with disabilities:

New Update on San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure Park

New Update on San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure Park

By Disney Destinations

June 22, 2023

At Disney California Adventure Park, the San Fransokyo Public Works Department has been diligently beautifying and making improvements to the local cannery district, which is home to a diverse neighborhood of eateries and businesses. In our previous update, we looked at a few of the landmarks and establishments you’ll see the industrious mash-up city from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Academy Award-winning film “Big Hero 6.”

Today, we’re excited to share that, over the summer, the local eateries will start to introduce delicious new menu offerings! Starting in mid-July, Guests will be able to sample new San Fransokyo selections at Lucky Fortune Cookery, and the Port of San Fransokyo Cerveceria will officially open. In the weeks following, additional dining options, unique shopping and more will be introduced as the transformation of this thriving seaside plaza continues through mid-August.

When the transformation is completed, locations across the area – from Cappuccino Cart outside the San Fransokyo Gate Bridge to The Bakery Tour – will be decked out in street art and colorful banners celebrating the Big Hero 6 team after their victory over Yokai.

Let’s explore more places Guests will be able to visit in San Fransokyo Square!

Guests will have the opportunity to interact with Hiro and his huggable healthcare companion, Baymax, who will say hello outside the Hamada Bot Shop. This is where the Big Hero 6 team builds and innovates their hi-tech gear, so Guests may also see a few of their upcoming inventions.

Ear the Hamada Bot Shop will be the San Fransokyo Maker’s Market, a storefront stocked with unique apparel, homewares and more featuring Baymax and friends. In the concept art above, the market’s shelves are situated on robot storage cases, with decommissioned battle bots on display. If Guests turn a sharp eye to the rafters overhead, they may spot the local battlebot champion, Hiro’s Megabot!

Across the way, a vending machine dispenses collectible golden medallions featuring Baymax and other iconic images from San Fransokyo.

The diverse array of flavorful fare in San Fransokyo Square will include current favorites and new creations inspired by Asian cuisine, as well as the Big Hero 6 themselves. Let’s check out the dining destinations Guests will be able to try.

Aunt Cass Café, the second bakery café operated by Hiro’s loving aunt, will serve dishes, soups in freshly baked Boudin Sourdough bread bowls and more inspired by Japanese cuisine. On the outside of this quick service restaurant Guests will find a mural of Aunt Cass’ pet cat, Mochi.

An old fishing net tannery across from the café is being converted to Rita’s Turbine Blenders, and a giant drink dispenser offering delicious margaritas and ice beverages. This refreshment stand is owned and named after the repair technician who maintains the floating wind turbine, resembling a giant koi fish, that sits atop the structure.

In addition to these locations, Guests can expect new menu items at Cocina Cucamonga and Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop. Keep an eye out for Disney Eats Foodie Guide, coming soon, for the full list of cuisine to come.

San Fransokyo Square will be full of fun travelers of all ages! On a scale of one through ten, how would you rate your excitement?

Both them park reservations and valid admission for the same park on the same day are required for park entry.
