Disney Cruise Line Increases Base Gratuities Recommendation –

DCL Adds Recommendation for Concierge Guests (Starting July 2nd, 2022)

First off let’s talk about why tip the Crew. I’ll break it down to each person it is suggested you tip. Let me tell you what they do.

Stateroom Host:

On embarkation day, deep cleans your cabin before you arrive, places any stateroom gifts in your cabin, finds and carries your bags to your room, and in the evening turns down your bed, places a towelgomi on your bed and sets up secondary beds if there are more than 2 guests in the cabin. Every day they make the bed(s) every morning, clean the room, replace used towels, makes sure you have any necessary bathroom supplies, checks the cabin mid-day and empties trash, refreshing as necessary, turns down the bed(s) in the evening, leaving candy and a towelgomi, checking trash and cleaning as necessary. They also take your bags back to be taken to the port for you the final night on the ship.

Dining Team:

Think of any high-end fine dining establishment that you pay $75+ per person for a meal. Would you tip $9.75 per person for that meal? With the service you get on the Disney Ships plus the comparable price for the meal this is low. Most people tip 20% or more so it would be more like $15+ per night. They are very aware of your allergies, special needs, and preferences. They will advice you when something is not safe for you. They honestly become part of your family.

Disney Cruise Lines new Gratuity Recommendation:

For a long time, the Disney Cruise Line Recommended Gratuities was $13.50 per person per day. As of July 2nd, 2022, the suggested gratuities were raised to $14.50 per person per day. You pay the combined total for your entire cabin on the last night or at breakfast before you debark the ship.

This is the amount is split between the 4 key people:

·         Stateroom Host - $4.75 per person/per day

·         Dining Room Server - $4.75 per person/per day

·         Assistant Dining Room Server - $3.75 per person/per day

·         Dining Room Server - $1.25 per person/per day

·         Total Per Person Per Night - $14.50

The increase is $0.25 per person you are tipping per day.

In the long run this is not much of a gratitude nor is it a great increase in your gratuities. If you were eating at a find dining establishment, you would tip more. If you had the comparable hotel room on land with the same service, you get from your stateroom host you would most likely tip higher. If you choose you are more than welcome to tip more. You can either go to Guest Services and add it to your account or you can just put cash in the envelope they give you. We always give more because the service we receive is always worth more.

This works out to the following amounts per person based on the length of the cruise:

3-Night

·         Stateroom Host - $14.25

·         Dining Room Server - $14.25

·         Assistant Dining Room Server - $11.25

·         Dining Room Server - $3.75

·         Total - $43.50

4-Night

·         Stateroom Host - $19

·         Dining Room Server - $19

·         Assistant Dining Room Server - $15

·         Dining Room Server - $5

·         Total - $58

5-Night

·         Stateroom Host - $23.75

·         Dining Room Server - $23.75

·         Assistant Dining Room Server - $18.75

·         Dining Room Server - $6.25

·         Total - $72.50

7-Night

·         Stateroom Host - $33.25

·         Dining Room Server - $33.25

·         Assistant Dining Room Server - $26.25

·         Dining Room Server - $8.75

·         Total - $101.50

Concierge Gusts New Recommendation:

The basic recommendations are exactly as the regular stateroom with the addition of adding $1 per day per person for the Assistant Stateroom Host. This makes the final total $15.50 per person per day.

It is also suggested that Concierge guests add $8 per guest per day for the Concierge Lounge Team (Concierge Managers and the Concierge Servers). It is always up to the Guest to determine what they feel is appropriate.

The Concierge Lounge Team also takes care of the Cabanas at Castaway Cay, so you may want to add a little extra if they also care for you there.

Prepaid Gratuities:

You can add prepaid gratuities before you make your final payment and then add more once on board. If you prepaid your gratuities before July 2nd, 2022 when this new recommendation takes effect you will not be charged the higher gratuities.
