Why is the Disney Adventure Going to be a One of a Kind Ship?

Why is the Disney Adventure Going to be a One of a Kind Ship?

Disney Adventure is the latest ship to join the Disney Fleet. Her Maiden Voyage was March of 2026. She is unique to the Disney Cruise Line. Up until Adventure all of Disney’s ships were purpose build and designed by Disney with the help of the ship builders. Adventure was not originally a Disney Ship and was not purpose built for Disney. She is also bigger than any other Disney ship and carries up to 6,700 passengers.

There was a Chinese Cruise Line that ordered the ship. It was being built in Germany. The line was forced to shut down because of financial issues caused by Covid. The shipyard building the ship also went under because they had a 75-80% built ship sitting in their yard with no promise of payment. Shipyards don’t get paid for building the ship until delivery. Disney stepped in and purchased the unfinished ship and redesigned areas of the ship. You would think Disney reimagined the ship so it should be ok and totally “Disney”. It truly is not.

Disney Staterooms are an average of 25% larger than industry standard. The Adventure’s staterooms are industry standard. They are smaller than Disney Cruise fans expect. The ship is designed with 7 themed area/neighborhoods with no Grand Hall/Lobby. When you board it is not into the lobby with throngs of people, characters and maybe even a little show going on. I honestly do not see Disney making another one of these ships and I think they were wise to release it where the did. It is not the typical market for Disney Cruise Line and will open the door for more ships there. Adventure is sailing out of Singapore on 3-4-Night Cruises at sea. No ports at all.

I'm not trying to discourage anybody from sailing on the Adventure. She is beautiful and does have a lot to offer but looks more like a Royal Caribbean ship than a Disney ship. She more of a floating amusement park than a cruise ship.

Disney Adventure is on her Maiden Voyage

Disney Adventure is on her Maiden Voyage

Disney Adventure is on her Maiden Voyage. She left Singapore yesterday. Adventure will do 3-4-Night cruise at sea with no port stops.

Robert Downey, Jr is the God Parent of the Disney Adventure. Check out the video announcement!

The history of the Disney Adventure is long. She will be a one-of-a-kind ship for DCL. She is the 8th and also the largest ship in the Disney Fleet! She will carry 6,700 guests and be the destination, not ports.

 Robert Downey Jr

Adventure started out as a ship being built for the Chinese, Genting Hong Kong Dream Cruise Line. Ordered in 2016 with the keel laying on Sept 11, 2018. Her given name at that time was Global Dream. Then Covid-19 hit. Star Cruise Line was not able to survive the covid pandemic. The shipyard building her also went bankrupt. Disney Cruise Line came in in 2022 and purchased the ¾ built ship that was about to be sold for scrap. DCL paid pennies on the dollar then spent a reported 1.8 billion to purchase and reimagine her to be a Disney ship. Adventure was to be launched in December of 2025 but failed her sea trials and was not up to Disney standards. Disney changed the Maiden Voyage date to March 10th, 2026 to give time to bring her up to standards.

Adventure will be more of a floating amusement park/hotel than a cruise ship. She has the longest rollercoaster at sea along with 2 other amusement park type rides. It has 7 themed districts and even has balcony cabins facing into the courtyards.

The classic service and style of DCL will continue with Rotational Dining. Instead of 3 restaurants there are 6. There is Hollywood Spotlight Club and Navigators Club. You will go to one of these restaurants. You will also go to either Animator’s Palate or Animator’s Table. Enchanted Summer Restaurant inspired by Tangled and Frozen or Pixar Market Restaurant will be the 3rd set of restaurants you will go to. You can check the Disney Cruise website for more information on the individual restaurants.

Disney Adventure Update

Disney Adventure Update

By Disney Destinations:

We know many Guests and Travel Advisors have been eagerly anticipating the debut of the Disney Adventure. This ship represents a bold new chapter for Disney Cruise Line, as we transform a partially built vessel into a fully reimagined Disney experience at sea.

As Disney Cruise Line brings this vision to life, we’ve encountered unexpected delays in the shipbuilding process. To ensure every detail meets the high standards Guests expect from Disney, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Disney Adventure’s Maiden Voyage to March 10, 2026.

We regret that this change will affect upcoming sailings. We understand how disappointing this news may be for Guests and sincerely apologize for the impact on their vacation plans.

To that end, we would like to extend the following to impacted Guests:

  • For Guests that were booked on the original Maiden Voyage, we would like to offer them the opportunity to sail on the new Maiden Voyage scheduled for March 10, 2026, at a 50% discount of their voyage fare. *No action is necessary if Guests are able to join us on this new sailing date. We will automatically shift their reservation to the new Maiden Voyage, and Travel Advisors can expect to receive a confirmation with an updated statement reflecting their reduced fare by October 8, 2025. If Guests are unable to sail on the new Maiden Voyage, we ask that Travel Advisors inform us by September 21, 2025 to request a refund of any amounts paid to Disney Cruise Line to the original form of payment. Guests then may use their 50% discount on a future cruise.
  • For Guests with bookings on all other cancelled sailings, we will automatically refund any amounts paid to Disney Cruise Line to the original form of payment and provide them with a 50% discount on their voyage fare for use on a future cruise. Their future cruise may be booked upon receipt of the cancellation confirmation of their original sailing.
  • To use the future cruise discount, the future cruise must be booked by March 31, 2026, and must depart before March 31, 2027. Please see below for additional terms and limitations.
  • The 50% future cruise discount will be notated and visible on each Guest account by October 8, 2025. If booking prior to this date, please note that the discount will not be visible at the time of booking. You will receive an updated confirmation statement reflecting this discount once it is applied, within 72 hours.

Thank you again for your understanding. We can’t wait to welcome Guests aboard the Disney Adventure.

*The 50% future cruise discount is applicable only to the eligible Guest’s voyage fare for a new booking. It cannot be applied to existing bookings or any other costs or charges, including but not limited to, Taxes, Fees, and Port Expenses. The Guests is responsible for any balance due after the discount has been applied. The future cruise discount is non-transferable and has no cash value: it is valid only for the named Guest booked on the cancelled sailing as determined by Disney Cruise Line in its sole discretion. Once a reservation is made with the future cruise discount, no name changes will be allowed to the reservation; a name change will void the future cruise discount and the prevailing rate will be applied. The future cruise must be booked by March 31, 2026 and must depart on or before March 31, 2027. The future cruise discount is not combinable with any other offers or discounts, and it cannot be combined with another future cruise discount. Blackout dates apply. Limit one (1) future cruise discount per eligible Guest per cancelled sailing. Subject to the Disney Cruise Line terms and conditions.

Why did the Float Out of the Disney Adventure Before Disney Destiny?

Why did the Float Out of the Disney Adventure Before Disney Destiny?

Disney Adventure has done its float out! A Float Out is when the ship is Floated Out of the shipyard when all major systems and building of the ship is completed. Standard practice is to start testing all the systems before taking the ship out for its Sea Trials. Disney Destiny is going to join the Disney Fleet first so why did Adventure Float Out First?

Disney Adventure is not yet completed. Normally the Float Out happens when the ship is fully completed as a ship and is almost ready for Sea Trials. This is not so for The Disney Adventure. The ship is so tall they could not finish the upper decks in the shipyard building. The classic Disney Funnels are not in place. The waterslides, rollercoaster and other upper deck attractions still need to be installed. For now, Disney Adventures sits at the shipyards dock awaiting completion. The Shipyard workers still have work to do. Disney Imagineers will also be there installing special effects lighting, carpets, wallpaper, painting, Walt Disney Theater stage lighting and effects, art and statues.

Once the upper deck, finishing work, and systems testing is done Disney Adventure will go out for her Sea Trials. Sea Trials are when the shipyard runs it final tests on all ships systems. They will see how fast she can go and how quickly she can stop. How tight a turn she can make and put all the motors, generators, and thrusters. They will check the electoral and ventilation systems as well. At the end of the Sea Trials the ship will officially be handed over to Disney Cruise Line. Disney Imagineers will still be on the ship during the Sea Trials working on finishing the work of final touches.

After Sea Trials and the handoff to Disney the ship will sail to Singapore for the christening, media cruises and finally her Maiden Voyage in December.

Disney Destiny is not far behind Disney Adventure! She should Float Out soon and will join the Disney Fleet in service in November.

The One of a Kind Disney Adventure Cruise Ship!

The One of a Kind Disney Adventure Cruise Ship!

Disney Adventure is going to be a unique ship. The most unique thing for Disney is, this ship was not commissioned and purpose built for Disney!

The Chinese Star Cruise Line ordered a ship just before the Covid-19 pandemic. It was about a third finished when Covid hit the world and travel came to an end. Star Cruise Line did not survive the pandemic and neither did the shipyard building the Star Global Dream. The ship sat in the shipyard unfinished and decaying. Disney Cruise Line purchased the Star Global Dream and offered to help Meyer Werft (the shipyard that builds Disney Ships and others) take over the shipyard so they could finish and reimagine the ship for Disney.

December 2025 the Disney Adventure will sail her Maiden Voyage out of Singapore! She will do 3-5-Night cruises at sea. No ports stopped at, all sea days. Don’t worry there is plenty to do on this ship to spend 5+ days exploring it! Disney signed a contract to sail from Singapore for 5 years. After that, it has not been announced if she will stay there or go someplace else.

Disney Adventure Stats:

Tonnage: 208,000 GT

Length: 1,122 ft 1 inch

Beam: 152 ft 3 in

Height: 231 ft 2 in

Draft: 31 ft 2 in

Passenger Capacity: 6,700

Disney Adventure is the single member of the Disney Global-Class of ships. She will have 7 themed Districts where you can see different things. There is a Marvel area that has several Marvel themed Disney Park style rides, including the longest coaster at sea!

Besides the Walt Disney Theater there are other stages onboard the ship with shows day and night. At the Walt Disney Theater you can see “Remember” themed on the movie Wall-E and Seas the Adventure. There will be the Imagination Garden with a Garden Stage featuring several Disney and Marvel shows.

The Main Dining Restaurants sound amazing!! There are 6 Main Restaurants, two sets of 3 Restaurants for you to Rotate through. Yes, Rotational Dining is still part of the DCL experience on the Adventure!!

There are more specialty dining experiences on the Disney Adventure. The other ships have Palo and one other Adult Only location. The adventure has several and even some for families!

How do You Choose a Disney Cruise??

How do You Choose a Disney Cruise??

There are several ways to pick a Disney Cruise. First, I’ll say no matter where or what ship you sail on you will enjoy yourself. Here is the main questions to consider.

Are you more interested in what the ship has to offer or the Ports of Call? Personally I’m more interested in the ship but do enjoy the ports as well!

If you are more interested in what the ships have to offer, make sure you consider the following:

Restaurants – Some of the ships have 2 restaurants with shows during meals while others have only 1. The one with no show is more of an elegant restaurant with beautiful Disney theme but no real show.

Shows – Do you have a favorite Disney movie you would love to see in a live show? Check your ship!

Additional Offerings - Such as AquaDuck/AquaMouse and Incredible Sports area, AR Game on the app or Muppet Detective Agency, Kids Club offerings are slightly different between ships as well.

Length of Cruise – Some ships only offer 3 & 4-Night cruises while some offers 7-Night+ cruises.

If Ports of Call are what you are interested in make sure you look to see if the itinerary you are heading for has places you wish to go to.

Do you want a taste of Europe? Consider the Mediterranean cruises offered during the summer. Want to see Alaska? Go on the Wonder during the summer! Want an Island get away?? Any of the Bahaman or Caribbean Cruises are fantastic and will include a stop at one of Disney’s Private Ports, Castaway Cay, or Lookout Cay. In 2025 and beyond you can go on the Disney Adventure and check out ports in Asia and the South Pacific.

Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are the Classic Ships. They are twin sisters and very similar in style and build. Magic was the 1st of the Disney Ships and Wonder was the 2nd. These are the 2 smallest ships of the fleet. They do not have the AquaDuck or AquaMouse. Magic does have a much smaller slide called the AquaDunk that is fun. It is nothing like the AquaDuck or AquaMouse. They are beautifully themed and have a nautical design. 2 of the 3 main restaurants you will enjoy in the evenings have shows while you dine! You will see the Black and White walls of Animator’s Palate go colored and pictures on the wall come to life while you dine. In Tiana’s Place and Rapunzel’s Royal Table get ready for live music and entertainment while you dine! Shows are different in the Walt Disney Theater on the two ships. So you will see something different between them.

Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are the second set of twins for the Disney Cruise Line. They are s little larger than the Magic and Wonder. They both have the AquaDuck, the first Water Coaster at sea. They have mini-Golf and the Muppet Detective Agency where you can solve a Muppet Crime! This is lots of fun for everyone. Only Animator’s Palate has a show. It will either be a version of Turtle Talk where Crush and friends come to talk to you during dinner. You may be asked to your own character, you will be given instructions to follow and you may see it come to life on the screens with classic Disney characters.

Disney Wish was the last ship to join the fleet in 2022. Her triplet sisters, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny will be joining in 2024 and 2025 respectively. Disney Wish, Disney Treasure and we assume Disney Destiny will have 2 restaurants with live shows during dinner. Wish and Treasure have the Marvel Cinematic Dining Adventure that has a show. Wish has Arendale a Frozen Dining Adventure and Treasure has Plaza Da Coco. Disney Destiny’s restaurants have not been announced as of yet. You will not find Animator’s Palate on these ships. The Wish and Treasure have the AquaMouse (The first Disney Attraction at sea. Part Water Coater like the AquaDuck and Part Dark Ride.) We can assume Disney Destiny will also have a version of AquaMouse. Wish has 2 story lines for AquaMouse. Treasure has 3 story lines planned. We have not even heard if Destiny will have AquaMouse or not, but can assume she will. I’m guessing she will get the 3 stories from the Treasure and add one of her own.

Little is known about Disney Adventure. What we do know is she was not purpose built for Disney. Disney found the ship sitting abandoned in a closed shipyard over ½ built. She was being built for a Chinese Cruise Line that went under during Covid. The shipyard also closed down due to Covid. Disney purchased the ship and had the shipyard that is building the Treasure take over completing the build and changing it to fit Disney design. We know she will be ported in Singapore for at least 5 years after she is complete. She is much larger than any of the other Disney ships. That is all we really honestly know about Adventure.

I’m going to tell you what I choose. I look at the restaurants and shows first. Then I look at the other onboard offerings. After that I look at the ports to see if I want to go there. If the ship is interesting, I don’t care about the ports because I’ll just stay on the ship, enjoying myself. I look for at least 2 restaurants with “shows” so Dram and Fantasy are lower on my list. I love longer cruises and only do short ones that leave from a local port.

I hope this helps you pick a cruise!!

Disney Adventure – the Next Ship in the Disney Cruise Line!

Disney Adventure – the Next Ship in the Disney Cruise Line!

What do we know about the Disney Adventure? Actually we have some good information!!

  • Disney Adventure will be the 7th ship in the Disney Cruise Line Fleet.
  • Disney Adventure will join the Fleet sometime in 2025 with her sister the triplet to the Wish and Treasure!
  • Disney Adventure will be the 1st Mega Disney Cruise Ship!
  • Disney Adventure will sail out of Singapore cruising Southeast Aisa.
  • Disney Adventure can hold 6,000 guests! Disney’s other ships hold 2,700-4,000 depending on class of ship.
  • Disney Adventure is the 1st Disney Cruise Ship not fully purpose built by and for Disney!

What is meant by not purpose built by/for Disney? Disney did not order Disney Adventure, nor did they have any part in the original design. Here is the story behind the Disney Adventure:

There was a Chinese Cruise Line that started building a mega ship. During the pandemic the cruise line and the shipyard building the ship went bankrupt and failed. The ship, then named the Global Dream, was about ½ built. The ship was about to be sold for scrap when Disney Cruise Line stepped in purchased the ship. Disney asked the Meyer Werft Shipyard to take over the failed shipyard in Germany and finish building the then Global Dream and redesigning it into the Disney Adventure!

Exactly what this ship will be like is a huge question. On the standard Mega Ship of other cruise lines there are multiple restaurants, both complementary and specialty. Disney Cruise Line has 3 Main Restaurants with a Buffet and quick service foods. What will Disney Cruise Line do with the extra already built restaurants?

Disney Cruise Line cabins are usually larger than the standard cruise line cabin. What will they do with the cabins already built? Most Disney Cabins have a split bath making it easier for families to get ready.

More information will come in the future!

We did not get many answers but we did at least get the name, Disney Adventure!!!!

What to Consider When Picking Where to Go Even When Going Disney

What to Consider When Picking Where to Go Even When Going Disney

Disney now can take you all over the world. You can go to five parks in four different countries and soon to be a sixth park in a fifth country. There are numerous resorts around the United States including the newest in Hawaii. Add the Disney Cruise and Disney Adventures and there are very few countries in the world that Disney will not take you.

So what do you need to consider when choosing will it be a Park, Cruise or Adventure? First of course is how you will travel and what you can afford. Do you have the time to fly across the country or around the world to a Disney Park or Resort? Can you handle time on a ship or do you get seasick? How much time can you take off of work for this vacation? These are easy things to think about.

Now people say I’m a worry wart and over think things. Still I’d rather be safe than sorry. Remember, if you choose to go on a trip outside your home country you are no longer in your home country where everybody speaks your language and the laws and culture are different. Can you adapt in an emergency situation while there?

Crime and political unrest is another thing to consider. Last year we went on a Disney Cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Let me share my experience on that trip and you can adapt it to where you go. Living in So California I know some of what is going on across the border a few hours from my home. I had heard reports of the Drug Cartels violence and had concerns, not panic about going there. To make sure I had the most current information I kept an eye on the news for the areas we were going to visit. I also made sure I checked the State Department website for information and warnings.

The warnings were stark and clear. People were being injured and killed just outside the tourist areas of two of the ports we were going to. We made the decision to not leave the port when we were at those ports due to the reports. Before we left Disney, and other cruise lines canceled stops at one of the more violent ports. I’m glad Disney is so concerned for the safety of its passengers.

When you get to port look around and be aware of what is going on around you. Be wise and don’t take valuables with you off the ship. The rings and jewelry are safer in your cabin safe than on your person. Take only the money you need for the day and if you can use travelers’ checks or a credit card it is better. Know who is walking around you and what is going on.

When we got off the ship at our first port we saw Mexican Army personal in full battle gear complete with flak jacket and helmet. They also held AK47 rifles at the ready! Needless to say we returned to the ship right away. We felt seeing that particular port was not worth our lives or safety.

The second port was much calmer. There were lots of Mexican Navy personal around in dress whites. They had pistols in holsters. None of them seemed upset or ready to fight. They were friendly and helpful when we asked for information. They were ready to protect if and when needed but it was obvious that things were calm. We walked around that port enjoying the shops for several hours. What a difference!

The upshot of this post is be aware of where you are going before you go. Know about the current State Department warnings and crime where you are going. Consider your family. Do you have young children with you? Do you really want to take them there? Keep your eyes open and be aware of who is around and what they are up to. Notice the level of security and act accordingly. If you see a lot of police, military or other type of security you may want to reconsider headed there. Be willing to change plans or not get off the ship if reports of crime and violence are too high for comfort. Better to enjoy a quiet time on the ship than take a risk in an area known for violence. This is especially true if you are taking your children there. If you are really uncomfortable with the level of violence or crime where you are thinking of going reconsider where to go and find a different place to go that feels more comfortable to you and your family.

Most of this is general travel safety information. Seems as soon as you put Disney in front of travel people assume it is safe. When you are traveling with Disney, either on the Cruise or with Disney Adventure there are many things out of Disney’s control. You must use reason when making the decision of where and when to go.
