Can you help me with An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas?

Can you help me with An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas?

I'm working hard at getting my book, An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas published before Christmas. I'm doing Print on Demand publishing with Outskirts Publishing. They will get the book into Amazon as both print and Kindle as well as into many other online book retailer sites. To do this I need money to get the ball rolling. Can you help? Any donation is gratefully accepted!

Here is one of the stories from An Angel Remembers:

ISAAC, THE SHOPKEEPER’S SON

My name is Isaac. I’m five years old; my Papa owns one of the shops on Market Street. We live aboves the shop. Papa got a man to make new tables and things for his shop. Joseph – dats da guy – had a new baby. My Mama took me to visit dem. My Mama told me I had to be very quiet as we visited ‘em. She said they had a new baby and the new mama must be all tired. All babies need lots of sleep too.
When I walked into da stable where they were staying there was lots of people. There was da shepherds with all those sheep, Joshua, da innkeeper, and all his family and a whole lot of other strange people!
The strange people were mostly very big. Bigger than my daddy!! One of them was very small, lots smaller than me even! I’ve never seen people like them before. They all had the prettiest wings I’d ever see, even da little one! The little one was sitting on the manger softly singing to the baby. The little one called me over to look at the baby! The baby was so beautiful! He smiled at me when I tickled His chin!
I tried to show Mama all the people in the stable, but she could not see ‘em. She kept telling me to be quiet and to stop being silly and making up stories. But I was not telling stories!
As the boy got bigger we played together! He was real fun! He could talk to the animals and they would do what He said. Even our big nasty cat liked Him. It scratched everyone but Him! He always had a lot of those strange people around Him. I like Nahem, the littlest of His friends the best. Nahem sang the prettiest songs and told the funniest stories! Nahem would even play games with us. I miss playing with Jesus and His friends.
My Mama still says that I need to stop telling make believe stories about seeing those strange people. She does not believe I have seen them around Him. But I know I saw ‘em! Nahem told me who “HE” is. Do you want to know who He is?

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas

On Christmas Day I wish you Merry Christmas and God’s many blessings.

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas is a collection of short stories I wrote for my daughter for Christmas. Each story takes 10-15 minutes to read. I wrote it as a way to share the story of Christmas and make it more alive for her without changing the story. I wrote them as an advent collection intending them to be read one each day during the month of December leading up to Christmas.
Each story is the account of the events leading to the birth of Christ as told by someone we either know was there, because they are mentioned in the Biblical account or someone we can guess was there.
Last year I decided to self e-publish my book.
It is available at the following bookseller websites:
iTunes Store, Barns And Nobel, Sony Kobo, Disel, Page Foundry and Baker-Taylor's Bilo.
It is also available at Smashwords.com for ALL ereaders and even as a downloadable PDF for the computer.

This is the poem that started it all. An Angel is on its appointed rounds in current day and finds a home that is not celebrating the joyous great gift God gave mankind many years ago. This Angel decides to remind the people in the home of God’s greatest gift of love, His one and only son, God in human form, Jesus Christ.
THE ANGEL’S GIFT
The house was dark. There was no Christmas cheer on this night of nights. No Christmas dreams filled little heads as they slept tight.
An angel of God saw this lonely sight as she was traveling round about. The angel remembered the Christ child’s birth and she wanted all to remember His worth. She found no stockings hung with care, no garland and lace or nativity set there. What could she do to show them the joy in remembering Christ’s birth in the simplest ways? She knew then she must remind them of the gifts God had given.
So off she went to the forest to find reminders to bring to their home. She called out to all living things be it bear, bird, brier or tree to bring things special to remember God by.
Beaver brought ice cycles, reminders of Christ’s tears with frozen rainbows of God’s promise inside.
Bear brought a garland of fruit a symbol of the sweetness of God’s love.
The squirrels gave nuts the hidden treasure of God’s word. Sometimes hard to open.
Sparrow found holly berries that looked like drops of Jesus’ bloodshed for man.
Mold brought a unbroken circlet of fine gold, symbol of eternity in heaven with God.
A noble fir tree said, “Take me. Christ died on a tree and lived evermore just like I am evergreen.”
The angel took all these gifts and decorated the tree. Then when she was done she took a star from the heaven and set it on top to remind of the Wisemen’s travel. Wisemen still seek Jesus today.
As she was entering the house God saw the gifts and added His own. Snow, pure and white, to show the purity of His love for all mankind.
May you enjoy all the gifts that God has given you this day and always.

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas, David the Shepherd Boy

The Bible does talks about the shepherds in the field being visited by the angels. There is no account how many shepherds were in the field or the ages. Their individual reactions were not recorded so I was left to assume what may have happened. At that time in society a child’s future was decided by his parents status. If your father was a carpenter you learned from him and became a carpenter.
What if there was a young boy just learning his trade with his father in the field that amazing night? What would his view of things been? Let me share his voice.
DAVID, THE SHEPHERD BOY

I was out with my abba and the other shepherds That Night. You know, The Night the angels came and told us shepherds about the baby! I was watching my sheep. Well, I was watching my one little sick lamb. I was keeping my lamb warm with my blanket. Well to be truthful I fell asleep with my lamb under my blanket. That’s why I was asleep when they first appeared. At first there was this one big angel telling us about a baby wrapped up in blankets all asleep in a manger and all other kinds of stuff. Then the whole sky was filled with angels! They were singing praises to God! It was so beautiful! It almost made me forget how sad I was because my lamb was so sick and weak. My abba said she would not live. I prayed to God asking that she would live. Such a sweet little lamb she is.
Abba and his friends talked for a few minutes about what had happened before deciding that all of us had to go and see what the angels were talking about. We had to go and find that baby. I did not want to go. I did not want to take my lamb anywhere. Abba said I had to go with them. So we went to town. It was late at night and the gates of the city were close. We watched the gatekeeper and when his back was turned we slipped into the city to find the child.
What we found was marvelous! There was a little baby boy in a manger just like the angels said! He was so sweet and cute!! He seemed smarter than any other little babies I had seen. I know what I’m saying, I’ve got two little brothers and a new little sister. They were not this awake when they were this small. His name is Jesus and He smiled at my abba and the other shepherds! His parents did not mind that we brought our sheep or that I had my lamb with me. He looked at me and my little lamb. He smiled at us! My lamb started to wiggle in my arms. She jumped down and walked over to the little boy! She nuzzled His hand and started eating the hay from His bed. She was not strong enough to eat before! She had not eaten in several days. She was better! I was so happy. This really must be a special little boy. What the angels said about Him being the Savior must be true. Savior or not He is precious to me!
Have you gone to see Him yet? I can show you where He is! Just ask anyone to point me out and I’ll take ya to Him! My name is David. I hope He will smile at you too!

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas ~ Mary's Mother

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas

The Bible does not talk about Mary’s family other than mentioning Elizabeth, Mary’s cousin and her husband. Here is what I think Mary’s mother may have thought about all the amazing things that happened to her daughter, son-in-law and her very special grandson.
MARY’S MOTHER

When Mary came and told me she was pregnant I was upset. How could this be? She is such a dutiful daughter and Joseph seemed to be an honorable caring man. How could they do this to our families? They were going to be married soon and should have waited! Then Mary told me that Joseph was not the father!
Mary told me a tale about an angel of the Lord coming and telling her she was going to have a son! That this was going to be a very special child that would grow up to be a great man and He would do wondrous things! He was going to save our people. Could she truly think she was going to be the mother of the Messiah?! This is hard to believe!
I did not know how to handle her being pregnant let alone her ridiculous tale! I sent her off to see her cousin Elizabeth. I had heard some strange rumors about her being pregnant, but I don’t believe all the tall tales I hear! She could not be pregnant because she is way beyond the age to have children and her husband, Zachariah is also very old. They have never had children before so it could not be true. Any way Zachariah will get Mary’s story all figured out. He is a priest so he will get to the truth!
Mary spent three months with Elizabeth. When she came home she told me that Elizabeth and Zachariah had a son! They have named him John. Mary told me that Zachariah could not talk when she got there because an angel of the Lord, the same one that had come to her, had told him he would not be able to talk until John was born. Zachariah believed Mary’s story and instructed that I do all I could to help her until the baby was born! I was relieved to hear that Zachariah believed Mary! I was glad she had him to stand for her and protect her from the law. I had wanted to believe Mary but with so much at stake it was hard to. I know I would have helped Mary no matter what.
Mary got married to Joseph soon after she got back from Elizabeth’s. Joseph’s business was doing well and Mary was over the morning sickness. She was getting so big and round! You could see the baby kick. The baby seemed to be doing well. Before the baby was born a decree came from Caesar. Everyone had to go to the town of their fathers to register. That meant Mary had to go to Bethlehem with Joseph. I had to go to the place of my husband’s ancestors and would not be able to be with her when she had the baby! I may never get to see my grandchild. Joseph, kind man that he is, got Mary a donkey to ride on so the trip would not be so hard on her. The last I saw of Mary, Joseph and my future grandchild was them walking out of the city gate heading for Bethlehem. I know that Joseph will take good care of Mary and the baby but I still wish I could be there for Mary and the baby.
Mary sent word with a friend that was coming to my town. She had a boy just like the angel said! They have named him Jesus! Because all the inns were full they are staying in a stable for a time. Joseph is doing work for some local shopkeeper who sells some of the things he makes. They have made friends in Bethlehem and plan on staying there. They are looking for a house to live in.
The friend also said that strange and wonderful things are happening to Joseph, Mary and little Jesus! A star has been over the stable where they live since the night Jesus was born! Shepherds came in from the fields to find the baby Jesus and worship Him the day He was born! They had a wild story about angels telling them about a baby in a manger!
I wish I could be there to see all that is going on with my grandson! I want to be there for Mary and Joseph also. I love them all so much. May it be God’s will I see them someday soon!

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas ~ Isaac's Story

Now some people say the Magi saw Jesus at the stable but that is not true. According to the Bible he was between 1 ½ to 2 ½ years old and the Magi came to the “House’ where the toddler lived.” In the time between Jesus' birth and then I am sure Joseph and Mary worked and made friends around Bethlehem. Being a young mother separated from her own mother I think Mary would have reached out to other mothers for help and guidance. Maybe one of Mary’s friends had a child that is older than Jesus but still young. What did that child see? With an innocent heart and open eyes not trained to be blind to the wonder of God what could he have possibly seen? Here is my idea of a possible witness to the Biblical account of the first few years of Jesus’ life.

ISAAC, THE SHOPKEEPERS SON

My name is Isaac. I’m five years old, my papa owns one of the shops on Market Street. We live aboves the shop. Papa got a man to make new tables and things for his shop. An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas ~ Nahem's Lullaby

An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas

Today is Thanksgiving and I decided to share a story from my book. I hope you don't mind.
An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas is a collection of short stories I wrote for my daughter for Christmas. I wrote it as a way to share the story of Christmas and make it more alive for her without changing the story. I wrote them as an advent collection intending them to be read one each day during the month of December leading up to Christmas.

This is the story of little Nahem, an angel sent from heaven to comfort baby Jesus. This story shows how even the smallest can be a blessing and be used by God. We know from Biblical accounts that angels attended Jesus. So this is my thoughts as to what may have happened.

NAHEM’S LULLABY

I was always told that I was “too little” to do anything important. I was too little to take messages to important people. My voice is too soft to be heard in the chorus. I’m not strong enough to fight like Michael. But I still got the best job of all!!
I kept begging to help out when Jesus came to the earth. I really wanted to take the messages Mary or Joseph, but they said no one would believe me. I asked to be in the chorus that sang to the shepherds. I was told my voice would not be heard. I hoped that I would be asked to help with the star that heralded Jesus’ birth. I was told my wings are too tiny and would not keep me up long enough. I was beginning to feel that I would not be able to help at all! Everyone else got to help but me. Everyone kept telling me to go sit on a cloud out of the way.
Then Gabriel heard me singing to myself. He said he had a very special job for me! He needed an angel with a very special kind of voice. A voice suited to singing to a small child, and able to calm a child down when upset. Would I sing for Jesus when He cried!? He asked if I would sing for Jesus!! It would be my pleasure and joy to sing for Jesus!! Would you like to hear one of the lullabies I sang for Him??

Hush - a – hush a – hush – a bye. Hush now Jesus don’t you cry.
Your Father watches from on High. Hush – a – hush – a - hush – a – bye.

Hush – a – hush – a – hush – a – bye. You need rest now. Close your eyes.
You’ll save the world your love is why. Hush- a – hush – a – hush – a – bye.

When Jesus laughed, it was as if all the sorrow of the world melted like snow on the first bright day of Spring. He knew the greatest joy was in doing His Father’s will. When He cried it was as if the deepest, darkest part of the Pit had been opened. All I could do to comfort Him was to sing a lullaby. Even as a little baby He knew His Father’s will for His life. He knew what was going to happen to Him. He knew that He would go through many horrible things before He could go back to His Father in Heaven. This was His sorrow and His Joy. He knew He was giving live and love to all mankind. I liked making Him happy when He cried.
It was my joy to sing for Him. It was not work. You know you can never be too small or too weak to do things for the Lord. All you need is a big heart and willingness to serve!

The song does have a tune. I took the tune from a lullaby I wrote for my daughter and she would cry late at night. Even the words are similar.

Here is the story of Joshua the Innkeeper. The Bible says an innkeeper allowed Mary and Joseph to stay in the stable of his inn. It does not give account of what was said or how he felt about ‘another knock at the door.’ Here is what I think may have happened at the inn during the first Christmas.

JOSHUA THE INNKEEPER

Another knock at the door! That’s how it all started. Another knock. As I answered the door I wondered when people would start reading the sign! It was a clear sign it said, “NO ROOM!” They came with all the other people because of that stupid decree. He looked nervous and unsure yet determined. She was thoughtful and quiet. I was about to send them on their way when I noticed that she was going to have a baby! I looked at my wife and little ones and knew that I could not send them out into the street. Where would they stay? No room in the inn. No extra beds. My family was sharing rooms and beds already to accommodate all the extra people!
I asked them to eat dinner with us. It was the least I could do. While we were eating I thought about their little donkey. He was such a gentle little beast. I could take care of the donkey for them at least! I had some room left in the stable. Suddenly it hit me! If they would not mind, they could stay with the donkey in the stable! It was clean and warm at least!
Everything was quiet for a few days. My wife made friends with the young girl and took to mothering her. She would go and check in on her as often as she could. This was the girl’s first child and she was unsure what was going to happen and what to do.
The young man, Joseph, helped around the inn. He fixed all the little things I had been wanting to fix for a long time. He had good hands, strong sure, and gentle. He also made things for his baby and toys for my children. He did anything to keep busy!
It was a moonless night. A single star shown bright, seemingly right over our little stable! I will never forget how bright it was. It made the night sky look like there was a full moon. It woke the entire inn with its light! Joseph came and knocked on our door. Would my wife help his give birth? My wife went with him to see what she could do to help. I expected her to be gone for sometime but a short time later she returned saying they had a boy and they were going to name Him Jesus. She said it was an answer to prayer the way He was born and what a good boy He seemed to be.
This is when it all started to get strange. People started showing up at our stable at all times of the day and night just to see the boy! First it was those shepherds with all those dirty sheep. They told some story about angels telling them to come and see the baby. After seeing the baby they went all over spreading that wild tale! That brought all the other people to my stable to see the child!
They stayed in our stable for a time and we got to watch the baby grow some. They found a place of their own and moved. I just saw them around town after that. Rachel my daughter would watch Jesus for them from time to time, and my wife would go visit Mary when she could.
Funny, come to think of it the star that showed up on the night of the child’s birth seemed to move over the house where they moved too. The night they left town was the last time I saw the star. Hadn’t thought of that before!

My Book, An Agel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas

My Book, An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas

I know this blog is usually about Disney. But, if you don't mind I'd like to share the story behind my book and a bit of the plans I have for my writing in the future.

As you may have noticed a couple of days ago with a second blog post in one day I published a Christmas book. It is called An Angel Remembers 25 Voices of Christmas and is only available as an ebook. It is only available at Smaswords.com at this time but I hope by the end of next week at the latest it will be available on Amazon and Barns and Nobel sites as well as other ebook sites. It is in the process of being approved for inclusion on those other sites.

I wrote a poem for Christmas 1994, it the poem Angle's Gift. It is about an angle seeing that people are not celebrating the birth of Christ. I used it as our family Christmas Card that year. My husband and I both worked at the same hospital and we gave the card to many friends that worked there. That card made it to the hospital foundation department where it was so appreciated they asked if they could use it as the hospital fund raiser. I have permission and it was sent out to thousands of people accompanied with a request to help the hospital continue to serve the community.

Between the end of 1994 and 1995 I watched our daughter grow. She was born in November of 1994. I wanted something more than the standard rereading of the Biblical accounts of the birth of Christ to use in teaching our young daughter the importance of the Christmas season. I also wanted something that would bring the family together during that hectic time of year. I wanted my family to come together each day during December for a short reading that shared a part of the story.

As stated the first poem is about an angel current day seeing people not remembering the birth of Christ. The next 25 stories are stories of different people who we either know or can suppose saw the events leading up to the birth of Christ. We know Zachariah, the High Priest was old when he became a father. Why is this important to the birth of Christ? The Jewish laws of that day said if a girl was found pregnant before marriage she was to be stoned to death. Why was Mary saved? It was the High Priests of the day that enforced the laws. Think about the face Zachariah could not speak after the angel came to visit. I can just see Mary and her cousin, Elizabeth, Zachariah's wife talking in the kitchen. Zachariah walks by and hears Mary say, "Elizabeth, I did nothing wrong. An angel came to and told me I was to have a baby, the Son of God! The angel's name was Gabriel." I can see Zachariah not believing Mary's story until she said the name of the angel. It is the same angel that came to him! How excited he must have gotten. How hard it must have been for him not to be able to tell Mary he understood and believed her story. He had to be part of God's plan to protect Mary and Jesus. We know Zachariah, Elizabeth, Mary and Joseph were part of the story.

There are others that we "hear" from in the Bible. There are a few people that are mentioned and their actions told but their emotional response is not given. We know there was an innkeeper but other than the fact he let Joseph and Mary stay in the stable. Others must have witnessed the events. Mary and Joseph did not live in a bubble. People in Bethlehem must have seen them and gotten to know them. Before Mary had Jesus I'm sure she and Joseph had friends. What did their friends think about the events? How about their mothers? A Jewish mother of that day would have a lot to say about the situation! So I've added their voices to the story.

In 1995 & 1996 I shared my stories with friends and family and was encouraged to publish my stories. Pastors at several churches also encouraged me to publish and they used my Angel's Gift poem in part of the churches Christmas program.

Since then I've tried several times to contact publishers and get my book published as a collection of advent stories. All the "traditional" publishers returned my manuscript unopened with a letter saying they do not accept anything from unknown authors. I stopped trying about eight years ago. Over the last 1 1/2 I've been looking at the stories again and working on them. I shared them with several people who had never seen them and they encouraged me to publish my stories. In fact they helped me proof and tighten them up. Rhonda and Paula's encouragement and help was the final part I needed to get the courage to push on. I looked into self publishing a paper book. The cost is high and the possibility of not getting anything back on the money invested was high. I decided to look into epublishing. In other words self publishing an ebook. This is the option I chose.

After checking on my options and reading reviews I found Smashwords.com had a good record with CNet.com I decided to give them a try. What I like is they make no promises on selling books. They just make sure you book can get out to the public. It is up to me to get the work out about the book. They will also, if my book meets format requirements get my book onto Amazon and Barns & Nobel and other book seller sites. They also put my book into all the major ereader formats available today. All that Smashwords has done is at no upfront charge. They just take a small percent of my book sales (usually 10%).

So the short version of the story behind my collection of Christmas stories is I wrote the book fifteen years ago and had no luck getting the book published until now.

I have two more Christmas books in mind and I'm thinking of taking my blogs about the Disney Cruise and turing it into a book on what people need to know before going on the cruise.

Now here is a list of the stories in my book and the first two stories. Enjoy.

Beaver brought icicles: reminders of Christ’s tears with frozen rainbows of God’s promise inside.

Bear brought a garland of fruit: a symbol of the sweetness of God’s love.

The squirrels gave nuts: the hidden treasure of God’s word. Sometimes hard to open.

Sparrow found holly berries that looked like drops of Jesus’ blood, shed for man.

Mole brought an unbroken circlet of fine gold: the symbol of eternity in heaven with God.

A noble fir tree said, “Take me. Christ died on a tree and lived evermore just like I am evergreen.”

The angel took all these gifts and decorated the tree. When she was done she took a star from heaven and set it on top to remind of the Wisemen’s travel. Wisemen still seek Jesus today.

As she was entering the house God saw the gifts and added His own. Snow, pure and white to show the purity of His love for all mankind.

May you enjoy all the gifts that God has given you this day and always.

GABRIEL REMEMBERS ZACHARIAH

I knew I would have problems with this one from the moment I was given this assignment. He is in the service of the Most High, but his faith is so small! Well, God uses even those with little faith. He will need to grow and will have lots to learn to raise the herald of the Lord.

I was right about how little faith this one has. He refused to believe me when I told him he would be a father. How hard is this for the Mighty One to do?? I mean, He made the heaven and the earth. He made the first of their kind as well as mine. He loves them so much that He is coming as one of them to show them the depth of His incredible love. If He can do all of that then He can make one of them have a child in His time even if they think their frail bodies are not able to do so.

As he tried to hide I told him that his son would go across the country telling people that the Savior was coming, preparing His people for the Christ’s coming and for the salvation that He will bring. He kept saying that he could not have a child because he was too old and his wife was too old. All he could do was make excuses as to why “HE” could not have a child! He was not listening to me. He did not hear me say that GOD had heard his prayer and was answering it. That means God would take care of the birth of the child. The Lord would cause this child to be born. All Zachariah had to do was listen to His message and have faith.

Well, I finally was able to tell him about half of the message. He still kept saying he could not be a father. I was so tired of his excuses and disbelief that I made it so he was unable to talk! Maybe if he could not talk then he would listen! Maybe then he would believe. I told him he would not be able to talk until his son was born and the child had been named John.

I spent as much time as my other duties allowed watching Zachariah and his wife as they prepared for the child’s coming. Elizabeth, his wife, was shocked but happy when she found she was going to have a baby. She did not quite understand how this thing happened to her, but in time she will know all she needs to know. She will be a good support for the girl Mary, when the time comes.
