Cruising Disney Kidless!

       Our first cruise was in 2005 and we had our daughter with us. She was 10 at the time. We spent most of our time on the ship as a family enjoying all the family fun. The only “adult” thing we did was brunch at Palo. Our last cruise on March of this year we went without our daughter. Well, she decided she did not want to go and we decided that would not stop us from going and having fun. We were called nuts for wanting to go on a Disney Cruise without our daughter. Were we sorry we went without our kid?? NO!! We had a fantastic romantic time and would go again just the two of us in a heartbeat!

       What is there for adults to do? PLENTY! During the day while the kids are in the youth programs while you are at sea there are Art of Disney Entertaing demonstrations. You can learn to make a Volcano Cake or Towelgomi. There may even be a master chef from one of the Disney Parks Restaurants to teach you how to cook something very special. There are also lectures by Disney Imaginers, animators and other people related to the Disney Company. We have had the pleasure of learning 3 recipes from the head chef of Disneyland's privet members only Club 33 and hearing from Leslie Iwerks, the granddaughter of Ub Iwerks along with Imaginer Mike West while on our 2 Disney cruises! All of this is free and is included with the price you paid for the cruise. To us it is priceless!

       There are some adult things that will cost. You can try to schedule high tea, brunch or diner at Palo (on all Disney ships) or Remy (only on the Dream and Fantasy) the adult restaurants. Wine and beer tasting are also adults only of course. Some time at the spa or salon could be schedule and there are even spa treatments for couples. This is both on and at Castaway Cay!

       You can always relax in the Quiet Cove pool or hot tubs or have a drink at the Cove Bar or Cove Café. They schedule some entertainment at the pool with DJ’s  playing music for your entertainment as you relax poolside or swim. Check your Navigator for times.

       During the day there are scheduled games and events in the various lounges. After 9 pm all the lounges go adults only. There are variety shows, music and dancing there until early morning. Check your Navigator for scheduled events. At any time you can drop into one of the lounges and have a drink. You can join into the family games and events as well.

       There is a sports bar on all the ships and you can go there to watch a game and catch up on what is going on with your favorite team. You can also play a little basketball, ping pong or shuffle board along with other sports if you wish. Deck 4 is a designated jogging deck. You can take a run around this open deck and enjoy the view as you run. Be aware this deck is also where the shuffle board is played and people will be just walking around as well. There is a gym onboard so you can work out if that is your pleasure. On the Dream and Fantasy they have also added other things like a 9 hole Miniature Golf course and the Aqua Duck Watercoaster.

There are classes on camera use and shopping tips for the ports you will be going too. These can be helpful in learning how to take that perfect picture to save your cruise memory and in saving you money while getting that just right trinket on shore.

Every night there is a live stage show, deck party or movie to go to. These are family friendly but still fun for adults. Disney turns this into a full evening event. Dinner will be themed to go along with the show and add to the anticipation of the final event, the show. For example, on the evening of the Golden Mickeys dinner will be formal. The Golden Mickeys is an Oscar type “awards” show. Everyone gets dressed up and you can even get your picture taken with Mickey & Minnie in their formal attire. As people walk into the theater there will be “reporters” talking to them as if they are stars on the red carpet.

Of course on shore anything goes and you can be as adventuress or relaxed as you want. You can set up a totally physical adventure climbing mountains, water sports, horseback riding or just wander a local shopping area.

We found it was fun just walking around the ship taking pictures and looking at all the details Disney took the time to put in. We also enjoyed just looking out to sea remembering why we have chosen to be together for 31 years.

You can also bring your own fun along. Join a Fish Extender group and have the fun of making new Disney friends and getting a little gift in your FE every day. Choose to make new friends by talking to people around you like the new people you meet sitting at your dinner table or relaxing in the hot tub.

So no matter if you are traveling with your children or not you can choose to have fun on a Disney cruise if you wish too. Get out your Mouse Ears, put a shine on those dance shoes get ready to smile and just relax and have fun!
