Due to firewall ristrections on the Disney Wonder
I could not post this here until I got home.
Today we woke up early and put all our luggage in the truck to head for the Port of Los Angeles to board the Disney Wonder for a magical cruise to the Mexican Riviera!! After hugging our daughter and telling her we will miss her on our cruise we left for the port. The entire drive we were listening to Disney music from the last cruise. DCL had sent us a CD Rom called the Castaway Shoreside Survival Kit. It had music and a screensaver for the computer. This added to the anticipation and excitement! Walt’s Basement traveling ambassadors, Piglet and Duffy kept jumping out of their carry bag to see where we were as we drove.
We got to port around 11 am, well before boarding started. We were giving boarding group 19. Our friends had not arrived yet so we sat down in the terminal to wait, we wanted to board together. We saw Captain Mickey and his gal Minnie in the terminal. We traded pins with some kids while we waited. When our friends came we boarded with the line to board. When we boarded they called out our name and the cast and other guests in the atrium clapped and greeted us warmly.
Next we had lunch at the Parrot Cay Restaurant. They had a wonderful buffet!! We enjoyed a leisurely lunch as they finished getting our room ready for us. We talked and enjoyed ourselves for about an hour.
After lunch we went to our cabin to drop off our carryon luggage. Our cabin is a category 9B on deck 2. We have one large porthole to look out of. The bathroom is split. In one we have a toilet and sink with a large mirror. The other has a tub/shower and sink. This is unique to the Disney Cruise Line ships. It makes it easy for more than one person to get ready at the same time. There is a desk and a couch to relax on.
When we got to our cabin we found that our check in luggage had not arrived in our cabin. We set up what we could and put our Fish Extender and decorated our door! If you don’t know what a Fish Extender is check out the last blog. By that time it was time to go to the mandatory lifeboat drill. So off we went! While standing there waiting for the drill to start we found a unintentional hidden Mickey! Mickey is hiding on the propeller of lifeboat number 16.!
After the lifeboat drill we went back to our room to see if any of our luggage had arrived. Some had come but others not all. We then went to the Sail Away Deck Party at the Goofy Pool. What a crazy time! Loud and fast moving the party got going. It was interesting at the end of the party to see how they uncover the pool. The pool had been covered to make room for a dance floor.
After the party we went to get ready for dinner. Some of our luggage had been placed in our room. We put away what we could and waited for the rest of the luggage. The only piece of luggage that did not come was Scott’s large bag. It came just as we were walking out the door for dinner. Too late for us to change clothes. So we did not get to dress up for dinner.
Our first night we ate at Triton’s. We enjoyed a quiet meal with our friends.. I’ll post later what we ate. After dinner we went to the Walt Disney Theatre for the All Aboard show with Taylor Mason. It was a fun show about sailing on the Disney Cruise. It showed people and Disney characters boarding the ship for a cruise!
After the show we went back to our cabin and found more fun things written on the white board we put on our door. Scott’s last piece of luggage had arrived. Scott grabbed a warmer jacket and we went up to deck 9 to get a drink before going to bed. It was raining and cold outside. We stopped at the Cove CafĂ© to sit and relax for a few before going back to our cabin and bed.
